INTRODUCTION
The diploma subject takes a project in commercial software development for the international oil-service company Shlumberger, which has placed a huge emphasis upon moving its business process in a digitalized medium. The objective of this project is to develop an application that will unify, fortify, and largely automatize the process of managing company-rented staff-houses for all involved user-roles. The application's purpose is to replace a manual process that is currently being used, which is error-prone, time-consuming, and costly. The paper will cover all phases of the project, starting with the initialization phase, where responsible actors have been selected, the project objectives were defined, and a feasibility study was conducted to determine the project's viability. The planning phase will be discussed in detail, where the developer has constructed a project plan, outlining the project's scope, deliverables, timelines, and resource allocation. This phase also includes risk management, stakeholder engagement, and change management.
The execution phase of the project will be examined, which involved the actual development of the application, including the selection of the development platform, the database, the development methodology, and the coding practices used. The deployment phase will also be discussed, including user acceptance testing, training, and system integration with other platforms and systems used by the company.
The paper will provide details on the project's reasoning, value, and planned system design for each phase, highlighting the decision-making process and the reasons behind the decisions taken. The impact of specific decisions taken and their implications for the project's success will be examined. The paper will conclude with an analysis of the project's deployment and the resultant functional and technical structure of the digital solution, as compared to the original design. Finally, the paper will provide insights into the project's successes, challenges, and lessons learned, as well as recommendations for future projects of a similar nature.
